Founder of HoloRing | Laser micromachining and surface nanostructuring

Petr Hauschwitz

Petr leads the Laser Micromachining team at HiLASE Centre. He researches multi-beam laser processing and the fabrication of functional micro- and nanostructured surfaces. At HoloRing, he draws on this experience in motif design, process selection and final inspection.

How HoloRing began

From an engagement ring to HoloRing.

Petr wanted an engagement ring for his partner that felt genuinely personal. He turned to the field he knew best: precision laser processing.

The first prototype brought together motif design, material behavior, laser parameters and inspection under changing light. Further experiments led to HoloRing, a separate company founded by Petr in 2024.

Technology access
HoloRing's access to HiLASE technology is governed by a commercial arrangement. Petr's roles at HiLASE and HoloRing are distinct.

Research applied

What laser research brings to a ring.

Petr draws on his research experience in three practical areas: adapting a motif to a curved surface, choosing the appropriate laser process and assessing the finished surface.

01

Adapt the motif to the curve

Line width, spacing and proportion are adjusted for the ring's small curved surface so the motif remains legible at a normal viewing distance.

02

Select the laser process

Laser engraving creates recessed detail. In selected designs, holographic nanostructuring changes how the surface interacts with light, creating spectral color that shifts with the viewing angle.

03

Inspect the finished surface

The finished surface is assessed from several angles and under different lighting to check the motif's definition, fine detail and optical response.
