Our HoloRing Wedding

The story behind our wedding HoloRings

How it all began

This was the moment HoloRing was truly meant for.

If you’ve read our About Us page, you already know the origin of the idea. A few years ago, when I was thinking about how to propose, I wanted to create something genuinely unique. Using my eight years of experience in laser nanomachining—technology we had used for aerospace applications—I designed an engagement ring like no other: with a subtle holographic pattern that only reveals itself in the light.

Two years later, we now wear our wedding rings—and of course, they carry that same technology. Each ring is engraved with a holographic nanostructure that diffracts light into shimmering rainbow colors.

The design? A personal choice. A minimal runic inscription in elvish script—you can probably guess where the inspiration came from.

It’s a Czech phrase that translates to:

“One for the love that binds two.
One for the love that never fades.”

It’s almost magical. In sunlight or strong light, the inscription appears as if the ring is revealing a secret. I often catch myself turning it slowly outdoors, watching the runes light up and disappear again. Just like the famous ring in the movie — only this time, you don’t need fire. Just light.

Why we chose tungsten

We didn’t even consider gold. Not because we don’t appreciate tradition, but because we wanted rings that could withstand anything.

Tungsten turned out to be the perfect choice. It’s nearly as hard as sapphire, meaning it doesn’t scratch. It doesn’t react with sweat or oxygen, so it won’t tarnish or lose its shine. And thanks to its density, it has a satisfying weight—you feel it on your hand, but it never gets in the way.

From a technical perspective, it’s also the ideal surface for our laser process. The holographic structures stay sharp and intact for decades. The material doesn’t deform, and the light effect never fades.

How the holographic inscription works

That shimmering effect isn’t created with color—it’s made by shaping the surface itself. A femtosecond laser engraves thousands of nano-grooves into the metal, each only a few dozen nanometers deep. These tiny structures bend and scatter light into a full spectrum, just like a butterfly’s wing or a drop of dew.

The result? A pattern or inscription that’s literally carved with light—and only appears from certain angles. In normal lighting, it stays dark or even invisible. And that’s the beauty of it.

Runes that tell a story

During the ceremony, just as we exchanged rings, a ray of midday sunlight struck the surface. The runes lit up—and for a moment, time seemed to stop. All the hours we had spent testing, prototyping, adjusting the laser settings… they all came together in that one quiet moment.

And it was worth it. For us, it was proof that science and romance don’t have to be separate worlds.

What we’ve learned from the journey

1. Technology means more when it carries a story
The laser, the precision, the materials—they're impressive on their own. But what gives the ring meaning is the message it holds.

2. Tungsten is built for a lifetime
Most jewelers avoid tungsten—it’s tough, hard to resize, and unforgiving to work with. But that's exactly what makes it ideal for something that should last forever. It doesn’t wear down. It keeps its shine without special care. It’s reliable.

3. The smallest details matter
Our holographic engraving process is incredibly precise. A difference of just a few nanometers can affect the brightness or color. This isn't something you can mass-produce—and currently, no one else in jewelry offers this at our level of detail.

What’s next?

For us, the wedding rings were just the beginning.

Today we create holographic rings for couples all over the world—each with its own meaning. Some feature coordinates of where they met, others use soundwaves from a voice recording, personal symbols, or meaningful phrases in ancient scripts. Each ring carries a hidden message that only light can reveal.

Final thought

A holographic ring isn’t for everyone. But if you're looking for something truly personal—something that stays unchanged for years, yet still surprises every time the light hits it—you might have just found it.

Just like love: unseen at times, but always there—ready to shine when the moment is right.
